Artist's Statement:

Clay found me about ten years ago. The endless possibilities are the main attractions when it comes to the ceramics arts. Drawing beneath the surface of clay takes me back to the 2-D realm I grew up with as an artist and sculpting builds the 3-D side of the medium of clay. My artwork is influenced by both organic themes and industrial design. Other avenues of study I have considered through out my life also fall into my study of ceramics. Engineering, architecture, and chemistry were possible career choices. Engineering stable structures and industrial designs require exact measurements and well executed craftsmanship. Architecture also requires thought out plans and spot on building. Chemistry is the basics of ceramics from formulating glaze recipes to the endless firing experiments. Ceramics has paralleled the basic elements of art that have inspired my skills I use as a ceramic artist. Going to Japan a few summers ago has opened my eyes to the ceramic world I have been studying. Ceramics has expanded my skill set and has challenged me in so many levels. This progression has brought me to the doorstep of being a professional artist and I am excited to take the next step.
